Are you ready for some football?

Monday night under the lights, the Reikland Reavers stepped onto the grid to face Nurgle's Rotters. A win for the Reavers would bring the league into a three-way tie heading into the season's second half.

The Rotters won the coin toss and their pestigor turned on the jets and pounced on the ball, with his blockers trailing behind. Reikland's quarterback bravely sacrificed himself in an effort to make a score-saving tackle, but the Rotter ball carrier was unmoved and put the first touchdown on the board.

Whatever wind Reikland had in its sails was gone, and their ship was dead in the water.

Play after play, they struggled against a slower, harder hitting Rotter team.

And then it was deja vu all over again for Reikland.

A short pass, followed by an after-catch run, ended shy of the endzone, courtesy of a brutal hit from a Nurgle lineman which forced the ball loose.

The gun sounded a second sudden death loss for the Reavers,

While the Rotters rode out high atop the standings, the Reavers, outscored 12 - 2 in Monday's game  and 32-12 this season, have a lot of soul-searching to do if they don't want to end the season at the bottom of the pile.

After three games, here's how the league stands:

  1. Nurgle's Rotters 2 - 0
  2. Skavenblight Scramblers 1 - 1
  3. Reikland Reavers 0 - 2

  2. Bloodbowl. I had a couple of teams over 30 years ago - basic Orc, (I called them the Kikkengouj Rovers) and basic human (Shining Saracens). I also began but never finished Niflheim Nightshade mixed race team. I also painted up a Club Orc team (Orcshire Rippaz), but some evil-minded snurge made off with them.

Club interest waned, and I think the game was wanting in development in certain areas in 1990. At any rate I sold off my teams and haven't seen them since.

Most glorious moment: my Orc team with just 5 players still standing, receiving the ball 0-2 down against a team that fielded large monsters. Handed the ball off to one of the fast guys, and whilst the other four had the snot beaten out of them protecting his run down the side line, he went in and scored. Last act of the day. It is OK to lose 1-2 when you have a moment like that...

I discovered a couple of weeks ago I still had the playing field - home made nearly 35 years ago.
    Cheers,

    1. Ion, that's a tale of glory to make Gorka and Morka proud! An ork team is on my Christmas list this year.

I am keen to try Blood Bowl proper but the only league in the area that I know of meets on a night I cannot play. Blitz Bowl, which is what I am playing here, is a much lighter game, with six figs per team, and the teams have fixed composition and the models have fixed abilities - more for the casual gamer. So, it lacks the team management aspect of the full Blood Bowl experience.

It does however have the benefit of playing fairly quickly - an hour or less is typical.

      Thanks for the comment!

  3. The Rotters are definitely the team to beat John! They may be slow, but they really pack a punch!

    1. Given that they lost their first two games (last year, right after they were painted) I am surprised to see them win their first two games in my first official "season". Not only are they slow, but they are terrible passers too. I think the mistake I made with them last year was trying to chase the ball and not sticking to a zone defense. With a zone, they can force a turnover and then methodically advance and it seems to work even against the speedier, better passing teams. We'll see if it holds up in the second half - I'll be using the multi-ball map which will change the dynamics a bit.
