Budget Housing

While running an errand the other day, I came across this pair of ceramic light-up buildings for $5 USD at Target.

"Papers please!"
Lady Penny Farthingsworth flicked the hidden switch on her umbrella, arming the poison gas jet within.

Their size is just about perfect for my uses, although I do have concerns about breaking them eventually (I'm a klutz). While they could be painted, I rather like the white look at the moment.

I am tempted to pick up another pack or two so I can have a small village at the ready.

Not pictured, I have been working on my latest batch of Imperial Russians, hoping to knock them out by the end of the year.

  1. They look rather good lit up - perhaps for a night fight

  2. I found a similarly sized/style set of three aluminum houses (painted black, no lights) in the Target holiday bins two months ago for $5. Nice size for gaming, though I might paint mine. I like finding inexpensive holiday-themed goodies that work well on the wargaming table.

    1. I think I saw those! I was quite tempted. I also realized I should be picking these things up when I see them, because you can't order them direct from Target, and resellers are marking them up obscenely.

    1. I have most certainly spent $5 for less enjoyable things!

  4. I have a number of ceramic Christmas houses, with the snow on the roof painted green as moss. Couldn't put figures inside so they clung to the roof, 20 years but several still in service.

    1. AH! I saw some with the snow and it didn't occur to me to turn them into moss. Brilliant!

  5. They look great. Perfect scale, as you say. I look forward to seeing your first night action!

p.s. Those guards are a bit over the top. Poor Mrs Farthingsworth. Mind you, they did not expect the old 'poison gas in the umbrella trick'

    1. I recall reading in a book long ago suggesting using some kind of torch to simulate star shells over the battle field. Perhaps I can combine the lit up town and that idea.

    1. I am rather pleased with them. I only hope they still have some left when I can get there again.

  7. Those poor men with only their helmets, rifles and hand grenades for protection - they don't stand a chance against her Suffrage-jitsu training!

    1. Lady Farthingsworth will suffer no boorish manners, soldiers or not.

Your links were a bit too inspiring - I found myself crawling for suitable figures shortly after reading those posts!
