The gloss has been applied and they look like proper soldiers now.

The original source map is accounted for and I have added what seems a reasonable terrain and island shape, but perhaps I'm constraining myself too much by filling in the unknown.
It could, after all, make an enjoyable game in itself to play out the exploration of the unknown portion of Blueland.

Shiny happy people the figures have become! Map moving along nicely.
ReplyDeleteThank you, tradgardmastare! Alas, they don't seem to be holding hands.
DeleteFine looking figures and a great map John
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maudlin Jack!
DeleteYour figures are looking very fine.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Peter!
DeleteI was thinking that rather than filling in all the terrain, you could show just the features that would be seen while still off-shore: i.e., the high ground, and whatever is along the shore. The men would not know what they were facing until they enter the hex (which could be determined by die roll, for example). Just a thought... Love your blog!!
ReplyDeleteBest regards always,
Chris Johnson
I like that idea Chris. I it would let me use the existing map portions, treating the desert as what is visible from the Spiky Mountains, but everything beyond is unknown. From the ocean side, the mountains only show the outline of the island, not the contents.
DeleteThanks!
Proper and shiny! Lovely fellows.
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
Thank you, James!
DeleteThey have 'the look' indeed! Well done!
ReplyDeletePs I end up using the image editor on my phone to adjust colour etc after the fact. Its not like a good camera but the phone is darned convenient!
Thank you, Ross!
DeleteSadly, even with much tweaking in my photo editor I can't quite remove the tinge of yellow. I think perhaps I need a better light bulb in the kitchen.
Smashing!, I look forward to seeing them fighting.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paul! Me, too!
DeleteThey look like 'proper' toy soldiers. Hope you are working on a system to show them in a display cabinet. Its another feature to this hobby that gloss varnished 54mm figures are decorative, and not just to wargamers.

Thank you MGB!
DeleteMy figures mostly live in 12 x 12 scrapbooking bins which is a shame, because I think there is a lot of visual appeal to them regardless of interest in toy soldiers or gaming or history.
