Shiny Soldiers Fight at Firefly Church

This afternoon's kick off to my Thanksgiving SoloCon feature a skirmish between the forces of Ginland and Vodkia near Firefly Church. As I'm in something of a food coma right now, I'll leave the pictures to tell the story.

Rules used were In Good Company (available from the Lone Warrior website).

On an unrelated note, I started the day off by watching "Is Paris Burning?" - about the French resistance in Paris just prior to the liberation of the city. It's long but not at all drawn out and absolutely worth a watch.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving (food coma?!?) John. These photos show perfectly how plastic figures with lots of shiny can look pure H G Wells' Little Wars.

  3. Looks like fun!

I esp love the old Britains mounted Cossacks but the AIP guys you painted look great!

    1. Thank you, Ross!

I keep trying to acquire more of those Cossacks (I have it in mind to use them to play Stuart Asquith's scenario for the retreat from Moscow in his solo wargaming book) - but most of the time the auctions get to rich for my blood.

    1. Thank you, Maudlin Jack! Playing this game definitely strengthened my resolve to complete the personality figures and additional infantry units I have waiting in the paint queue for each side.

I forsee more games with them in the coming year - using GASLIGHT (slightly modified) and the Portable Wargame.

  6. Those painted 54mms look great on the table in play. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. I'm certainly thankful for your blog -- and G Company -- for giving me some great inspiration and fulfilling engagement. Makes me want to paint some of my AIP soldiers and field them on the wargaming table.

    1. Thank you, Peter! I hope you had a good Thanksgiving as well! I appreciate all of the thoughtful discussion you have given me regarding G Company. As for painting AiP figures, with the exception of the Highlanders (no fault of theirs, I primed with white, something I rarely do, and found myself noticing missed dots of white every time I thought I was done!), they have been a joy to paint as they lack a lot of fiddly detail (a very good thing in my opinion).

  7. great stuff, altho it looks like a defeat for the Ginnies, or Ginlandia, and I sympathize with them as I consume a Pink Gin right now. would love to see these armies in One-Hour Skirmish Wargames, which will be what I try my Malakand blokes out with. Hint hint...

    1. Thanks! I hadn't thought about using them with OHSW but these forces as they currently stand are the perfect size for that. I could easily make use of that first scenario in the book and just have the Gatling in the middle of the road.

First though, I want to play through the "map" campaign example given in the rules using my unpainted TSSD winter Germans and winter Soviet figures. So, you can expect to see some OHSW posts in the next week or so !(I still have a post to write up from this weekend first though. Or at least that's my plan.)
